The Wide World of Publishing, Part 2

October 13, 2021 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

For the second offering of CWIP’s programming year, three more publishing experts will share the stories of their successful careers in different aspects of the industry. Panelists Lorraine Murray, Sue Baugh, and Kate DeVivo will explain the careers they have built in traditional and emerging publishing venues while sharing tips on working as freelancers, contractors, employees, and managers in the industry. They will cover how they started in the industry, the skills they bring to their work, and how they’ve responded to new opportunities.

Register today!

Lorraine Murray, executive editor at the American Bar Association, provides project management and book editing for a variety of ABA membership sections where she works closely with book publishing boards in developing new authors and editors for future projects. Previously, she held editorial and management positions at Encyclopedia Britannica and Fitzroy Dearborn Publishers.

L. Sue Baugh is an award-winning author and speaker who works in educational, medical/science, and business publishing and helps individual writers develop their books. After a few years in the corporate world, she started a freelance career in writing, editing, and indexing while continuing to work on her own writing and artwork. Sue chaired CWIP’s freelance committee for several years and has developed city-wide freelance seminars and publishing courses

Kate DeVivo, president of KTD+ Education Group, has more than 20 years of experience in editorial, online course development, production, and management for publishing companies, magazines, higher education organizations, and nonprofit associations. She has extensive experience developing print and digital products, online courses, and K-12 assessment materials, and specializes in working with organizations to develop project structure and processes, provide talented resources.

We invite you to join us on Zoom on Wednesday, October 13, and spend the evening with your Chicago publishing world colleagues—veterans and newcomers alike—to hear three CWIP members share their stories of successful careers in very different roles vital to the industry.

The event is free, though we welcome donations. However, you will need to register to receive the link to the live presentation or to access the recording in the event that you’re not able to join us in person. Instructions for accessing the webinar will be sent to all registrants prior to the event.
