Advocacy
Activity: Help raise awareness of issues affecting women in publishing
Benefits to member: You can research issues, propose ideas, and write articles about advocacy to appear in Clips and on the soon-to-be-resurrected Advocacy blog. You can also monitor bills as they move through the state and national legislative houses, and write regular email blasts alerting members how to take action. Watch this space for new developments!

Clips Newsletter
Activity: Write an article for Clips, CWIP's bimonthly newsletter
Benefits to member: Do you want to expand your portfolio of clips? Are you trying
to break into publishing and get experience? Clips, Chicago Women in Publishing’s
member newsletter, offers opportunities to write feature articles, edit and proofread
stories, and work on design and layout.
Any special skills needed: Passion about a topic; desire to share expertise and/or interests with others; or just a desire to write!

Membership
Activity: Assist in buliding membership, and event planning for two CWIXer socials
Benefits to member: Looking for ways to network with other publishing professionals? Want
to gain exposure to different areas of the Chicago publishing scene? The Membership
Committee needs people to work on recruitment of new members and retention of
existing members. You'll also gain event planning experience when helping create CWIXers, the socials for new/perspective members; these casual events are held at various spots around town.
Any special skills needed: Good phone and communication skills; interest in marketing.

The CWIXers: Fall and Spring. The Spring CWIXer will be planned starting in January/February.
Programs
Activity: Help organize Wednesday night programs
Benefits to member: There is no doubt about it, CWIP Wednesday night programs are where
the networking happens. When you volunteer for the Programs Committee, you’ll be
backstage at an important part of CWIP’s educational programming. Expand your
publishing savvy by meeting publishing experts, hosting networking events, and
researching and employing innovative methods of publicity. Volunteers are needed
to generate program ideas for the year, contact potential speakers, and publicize the
events to CWIP members and beyond.

Activity: Help write press releases, create fliers, and use the web to publicize events

Any special skills needed: Experience writing headline or marketing copy for press releases or promotional materials; also skilled at detailed trafficking of materials and meeting target deadlines

Activity: Write articles on the CWIP Wednesday and special events, or take photos of the programs, to be published within each article
Benefits to member: Get your articles and photos published on the website, and build your portfolio.
Any special skills needed: Writers: clear, engaging writing, be able to submit your article one week after the event. Photographers: own a digital camera (or regular camera and scanner); be able to send your photos one week after the event.
