The Mentoring Program Takes on Speed Networking
CWIP's Mentoring Program held a Speed Networking Event for members at the 404 Wine Bar on Friday, November 22nd. The Kick-Off event attendees had high praise for the venue and served the group of 11 members well. Made up of mostly mentees with a couple mentors, the smaller group gathered in a circle to start off the networking. Each person then rotated around the circle until everyone had the opportunity to speak with everyone at least once. Conversation centered on the goals of the mentees, gathering advice about job searching and making a career shift. Though the majority were mentees, the skills and experiences of all who attended did prove to provide helpful perspective.
“I really enjoyed myself and did learn many new things. I didn't fully understand the difference between an Editor and a Copy Editor until [tonight],” shared Jill Wester, mentor and mentee, in an e-mail.
404 Wine Bar continues to support CWIP as well.
“Just wanted… to say thank you again for coming out to 404 last night with Chicago Women in Publishing! It was so great to see you again!” shared Lauren O'Neil, sales and events manager.
The Mentoring Program's next event will take place after this busy holiday season in the new year. We are always interested in feedback and suggestions. Feel free to share your opinions with the Allison Zink, the mentorship committee chair, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
