February Program: Speaker Bio

Our speaker, Renee Welch, Ph.D., is assistant director, instructional designer and adjunct instructor for the Office of External Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). She is responsible for the design, development and delivery of interactive content for eLearning and instructor-led courses.

She currently teaches three online grant-writing courses for UIC's Writers Series program: "The Essence of Grant Writing," "Mastering Grant Writing: How to Write a Winning Proposal," and "Writing a Successful Grant Research Application: Strategies for Research Investigators."

For the last five years, Dr. Welch has served as peer reviewer for the U.S. departments of Education, Commerce, and Health & Human Services grants administration offices. As a development consultant, she works with nonprofit organizations and small businesses on proposal development and review as well as grants management.

Dr. Welch earned her doctorate in educational policy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is a certified Blackboard Instructor and Master Online Instructor.

The UIC Writers Series is a non-credit program designed for individuals interested in improving their job skills or simply writing for enjoyment.
